Denver opened 2026 the hard way: a 31–10 Monday night loss at Kansas City, and the first NFL team to drop an opener by more than 20 points after a 14-win season. The published box was thin — 176 total yards, 9 first downs, 3.74 yards per play, 2-of-12 on third down, two turnovers, and just 47 snaps, fewest in the league in Week 1.

Bo Nix went 17-of-28 for 131 yards, one touchdown, and one interception (plus a lost fumble), with four sacks and a 69.2 rating. The only Broncos score was a 19-yard Nix-to-Evan Engram strike; Engram finished 4-for-43. The run game barely showed (15 carries, 61 yards), and the new toys stayed quiet — Courtland Sutton and Jaylen Waddle combined for three catches and 13 yards. On the other side, Kenneth Walker III ran for 173 and a score as Kansas City piled up 220-plus rush yards.

Davis Webb’s first game as full-time offensive coordinator looked stalled, and both Sean Payton and Nix called the execution “pitiful.” The tape says the same three things: run it, convert thirds, and tackle. None of that happened Monday. Home opener Sunday is the first chance to flip that script — now without Marvin Mims Jr. (OUT, foot) and with RJ Harvey only questionable.
